The Church

Mount Zion Church, Quarriers Village is an independent evangelical church, which means that we are not part of a denomination. William Quarrier built the church in 1888 for all the children of the village, regardless of their religious background. All these years on we are still the only church in Quarriers Village and we retain this openness to all.

The Word of God, the Work of the Holy Spirit, Unity of fellowship and Prayer are the four unseen pillars of our church which we believe God has asked us to maintain.

We want our church to be a place where everyone attending feels comfortable and welcome. Many people when coming for the first time have commented on the warmth of the welcoming atmosphere. We have a full spread of ages from young children to older people. We also try to be inclusive in our choice of worship music, using both traditional hymns and more modern worship songs and choruses. Each Sunday service includes a short time where we address the children and young people, because we believe it is very important to make all age groups feel welcome.

We strongly believe in maintaining a balance between the work of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God as revealed through the Bible, and this is reflected in our services.

Prayer is a very important part of our church life here in Mount Zion. We believe that God hears and answers prayer, so we make prayer a priority in our worship and in our midweek meetings.

It is difficult to describe any church in words. I hope we have given you some idea of the nature of Mount Zion Church, but if you really want to know what our church family is like, our advice to you is in the words of Jesus:

“Come and see”

John 1:39

What We Believe

Our basis of faith is a belief in:

  • One God, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit
  • The incarnation, death, resurrection and return of our Lord Jesus Christ

  • The fact of sin and the need for forgiveness through personal faith in the atoning death of Jesus Christ
  • The Bible as the inspired Word of God

Our Mission Statement is:

  • Bring glory to God

  • Bring the lost to Christ
  • Bring members to maturity

Who We Support

As a church we support several other charities including:

  • The Haven, Kilmacolm
  • Mission Aviation Fellowship
  • Mercy Ships
  • Blythswood Care

  • Christians United For Israel

  • Inverclyde Youth For Christ

  • New Hope for Children

We have a strong link with the Haven, Kilmacolm, a residential Christian rehabilitation centre that has enabled many men to become completely free from their drug and drink addictions over the years.  Pastor Andy visits the Haven twice a week where he provides pastoral support to the men.  From time to time they visit Mount Zion to worship with us and to share their stories.

How We Are Governed

Mount Zion Church is a registered charity, which is governed by its Church Council.  The Church Council consists of the Pastor, Church Secretary, Treasurer and elected members of the congregation.  The council meets on the 1st Monday of each month.

An Annual Congregational Meeting is held in May of each year at which the accounts are approved, and elections for new members of the Church Council held if necessary. Mount Zion has no formal church membership, and all regular members of the congregation can attend the A.C.M.
